Dark Night Poem by Shane Meritt

Dark Night

Rating: 5.0

Calm. Untouched. but full of noise.
Chirps of the crickets coming in steady beats.
Unbroken by the noise of machinery.
The sun has gone down to rest.
The moon and all of it's allure has come out to play.
It's night.
The darkness seeping into everything.
eyes seeming to stare from every corner.
Pure and absolute dark.
The dark where no light shines.
But the glimmer of the moon.
Reflecting off the surface of the pond.
Gentle ripples of fish splashing in the water.
Also the the sky seeming untainted by pollution.
Untouched by streetlights or cars bright headlights.
Unseen to those that cannot see into the black of night.
Unfeared by those who aren't afraid to see what lies in the dark.
But only the right kind of people see that it's not always dark.
The moon without clouds brings a new level of light.
The light that is seen but not seen.
That aura around the area of security.
That feeling of warmth when it seems like the moon is watching your back.
Holding you in it's shine to say, 'It's never too dark when I'm here.'
'Nothing can take you from my grasp except nature itself.'says the moon.
Then a cloud roles over it's shine.
Ripping the hold it has of you.
The fear and insecurity gripping your body.
But then the cloud left and the shine grabs you again.
And the moon says, 'I left you alone for a minute but i will always return.
So fear left you forever that very second.
And you knew you would never be afraid of a dark night again.
