Dark Times Poem by Mary Rodriguez

Dark Times

Life has a way of bringing us to our knees
It doesn't listen as we scream out our pleas
Sometimes we have to be broken to start anew
It's during these times things seem the hardest to get through
Feels like the earth is opening wide
Swallowing me up deep down inside
Restlessness befalls me as day turns to night
I've lost my way and can't see the light
I've tried to be strong but I was just concealing
No one knows what it's like to feel what I'm feeling
Nothing goes right no matter how much I try
I have no more tears left to cry
Hopelessness consumes me as I grab a knife
Feeling things would be easier if I ended my life
It only takes a word of kindness to heal a soul
Don't look past someone that you could console
Support from others can be all it takes
To prevent someone from making a grave mistake
So be kind when you see someone that is distraught
It can make the difference between and action or just a thought
