Dark Truth Shine Poem by babylon patrol

Dark Truth Shine

dark truths shine
like ice on frozen lakes
on moonless nights
for freedom’s sakes.

what is there to know
about darkness and ice,
crime and delusion,
treason and vice?

what seers see
is nothing but the pain
of frustrated pursuits
that drive beings insane.

dark truths shine
to free from desire
and in doing so
they extinguish the fire

of lust and longing
revenge and regret –
a chilling warning
not to forget

what happens when virtue
bows, cracks and bends,
when rashness rules and
means justify ends.

dark truths shine;
like ice on frozen lakes,
it supports those without fear
whether it brakes.

dark truths show
on a moonless night
a straight and noble path
to the morning side.

This poem came when I had to find a way to explain to myself why I felt the image of a mosquito in the second before it crashes into a spiders net compelling and attractive, although I feel a certain warm respect for the individuality of these small creatures and wish them no harm.
The magical reversal of the ambience due to the light coming from below - rather than above - in subzero winters seemed to catch that apparent paradox. This effect is more pronounced, because more subtle, if there is no moonlight, i.e. there is no light at all. ‘All life is suffering, ’ as the Buddha’s insight puts it succinctly.
