Darwin And Poe

Rating: 5.0

Born 1809, Jan 19 and Feb 12.

In 'The Raven' by Poe,
Athena is called by her by-name Pallas.
There's a bust of her over the door.

The dead one he adores
is the by-name of Helen -
Lenore.

With by-names the go,
Charles Robert Darwin might be the raven;
evolution is perhaps Nevermore.

Somehow I sense a symbiosis between Darwin and Poe. Poe treaded that dark path teetering on death, Darwin also in a completely different way. By, By-names and sur-names so the poet and evolutionist go.
