Darwin In Eternity Poem by M.J. Lemon

Darwin In Eternity

Rating: 5.0

Darwin was a creationist
with parents who insisted on daily ritual
and regular church attendance

He hid his fondness for dinosaurs
buried the evidence
in the pages of his father's
pornography stash
laid to rest in
the sofa in the garage
by the refrigerator
and the car powered by

the legacy of the long
dead and gone
leviathans

Awakened thoughts of death
then despair all finally gave way
to the resolution that at face value
he had to accept eternal life

there was never going to be death
and he would never die
his departure from this earth
would be the cause of
too much trauma

not for his sake
but for the well-being
of all that existed

the only one
who
could tolerate this drama
his science
class acquaintance

yet even Nick
mentioned he found no mention
of Darwin in the history book
that explained Ancient Athens
the Renaissance
the Enlightenment
and even Tobruk

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is based on people I knew a long time ago. I have no idea what happened to them, but they serve to inspire, from all those years ago.

Thank you, Leeann. I think we've all met someone at least something like him.

I am sure this is not about Charles Darwin- the propounder of the Theory of Evolution! This Darwin through his religious indoctrination believed that he will not die and would live eternally. He thought that he should live for others as his departure would be too much of a shock to others. You are eager to know what must have happened to him. However those dead and gone continue to live in our midst in one sense as they keep inspiring us! A very interesting account!

Thank you so much, Valsa. And you are right; this is certainly not about Charles Darwin. It is about someone I met long ago. And I do at times wonder what happened....Thanks again.

Darwin beer The Lemonador Bri Edwards. This is shaping up to be an action adventure. Maybe I'll write a poem about it. Or even a song. As always, great work, M.J.! Definitely a 10!

Thanks, Richard. And you reminded me of Evolution from Darwin in the UK...I think it was Evolution Ale. And yes, the action and adventure.....

I love that you challenge us- - you do not spoon feed your readers- -we are expected to come with our brain cells awake and alert and acquainted with deep thinking. Poor Darwin- an enthusiastic mind meets our Mj Lemon and the struggle ended with a knock-out punch delivered in the 8th round by still champion The 'Lemonador'. Good wrire, my friend, as usual!
