Dawn On The Thames Poem by Michael Cayley

Dawn On The Thames

Rating: 5.0

The fragile ribs of mist on the morning river
have faded to transparency.
The sun has no time for dreamy eyes
or the sorrow of dew.
Brushing off the hurried farewells of commuters
with a sidelong frown,
it raises office-blocks floor by floor
with pre-stressed concrete. Early cleaners
are at it already,
attacking the recalcitrant dust of night.
The low moan of car rises from the bridges.
