Dead Run Poem by moon dust

Dead Run

I've forgotten
And as time fades
Minutes into years
I'll have just a wisp of a hint of memory
Unattached to time
Unconnected to where
It'll come back to me
The smell of fear
So hot and thick in the night
That damned loud pounding
The sound I thought would give us away
Was it your heartbeat or mine?
The rush as smoke filled my lungs
I let go, I forgot to breathe
You were there
The knife, his gun, the country field we hit at a dead run
I can still smell the burning from his gun
How I could go on no further, but still had to run.
