Dearest Dad, Where Have You Gone? Poem by Lauren Humphrey

Dearest Dad, Where Have You Gone?

Dearest Dad
Where have you gone?
Please tell me because I am mad,
For you promised to be back before dawn.

But you are not here,
You are no where to be found.
I try not to shed a single tear,
But daddy I fear you have drowned.

There was no kiss good-bye.
There was no last “I love you.”
Daddy without you here my life has gone awry,
For you held it together as tight as glue.

I miss your smiling face,
your loud laugh,
and loving embrace,
for you were my other half.

I don’t know what to do.
I want to yell and scream.
I truly don’t think I can make it through.
I wish this was only a terrible dream.

Dad I need you here,
Standing by my side,
To help me conquer all my fears,
And strike a spark in my stride.

Dearest Dad
Where have you gone?
I am no longer mad, just simply sad.
For you promised to be back before dawn.
