Defending Difference Poem by Amber Mitchell

Defending Difference

Rating: 4.0

You hush the words we want to speak
Since we're different we're all freaks
Accepting shelter we all seek
Stolen pride won't make us weak

Afraid of change you keep us quiet
Careful now, expect a riot
You claim you mean nothing by it

Behind a mask we will not stay
Soon speaking words we need to say
Being ourselves we do it our way
Not to be stuck in time of day

The torches lit, burnt, and smoking
On the plumes you'll be choking
You gave us your's so here's our token

As one we take our stand
Around the world hand in hand
From this world we won't be banned
This too is our land
