Most don't realize just how sever depressions can be
they push it aside pretending it isn't real
and yet when they see someoen suffering
what do they do
do they stop and encourage
or even show concern
for most they are lucky to be acknoledged
those who are not lucky get pushed away
They are called Emo's
They are called downers
they are called ghosts
no matter what you call them
they are all one in the same
someoen looking for help
but just cna't find the way
to ask for that help
it is so easy to turn a blind eye
to those suffering a pain inside
push them away say it is none of your concern
tell yourself you can't do anything
maybe your sleep won't be so troubled tonight
For when you push them away
several things can happen
depending on how sever
they have fallen
some will only cry
while others bleed
I have seen both
covered in stains
by tears and blood
could you stand there and watch
as that gentle soul cries
asking only why
could you only watch
as a knife cuts
pouring out the misery
I have seen both
I have been both
my cheeks have run with tears
my arms have run with blood
send your doctors and their drugs
but the only cover the problem up
they say I am mentally insane
just because no one wants to help
and I am left alone
wtih all these feelings inside
who said life is fair
who said life is kind
to those of us who are looked down on
we know all to well what life is like in hell
So I ask you
when you see one of us
on the street
in the store
sitting next to you
will you offer a hand
or a kind ear
or will you turn away
and shun what we have to say
the choice is yours dear reader
you can save a life
or condemn a life
by choosing in such a way

Trevor, thank you for sharing this with us. This is such an important piece. Many of us eventually know the feeling of being in a depression, whether it's long-term, situational, or seasonal. It sometimes feels like no one understands. Unfortunately, if you give in to that belief, then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Many of us do care even if we don't know how to help. Excellent piece and perfect for this time of year! Take care, Beth
