Destination Poem by Sony Dalia

Destination

As you descended
Hurtling down from the sky
Awestruck was every one
Wondering how and who could handle thee!

As the Adibhikshu, Shiva, stood firm
His matted hair spraying across
To contain your apparently inexhaustible energy
And knotted the infinite power, what a sight!

Moved by prayers of Bhagiratha
As He let lose a lock of hair
For you to tumble in joy and dance you way
Following the sage, how sanctified the land turned!

Fortune smiled kindly as you moved
To Rishikesh and on to Haridwar,
The entire plains waited with breathless glee
To welcome and be blessed by you, Ganga Mayya!

Kings, Kingdoms, Emperors, Empires
Epitomized ephemeral glory, evanescent might,
Invincible Time’s systematic operation…
Mutability, the law of life emphatically established!

Enchantress, energizer, every ripple enigmatic
Changing hues, melodic meandering,
Blissful presence, blessed lives…
We live to depart, depart to live in your tender lap!
