Deus Ex Machina Part 2: Allies Poem by Navarun Mallick

Deus Ex Machina Part 2: Allies

Many ages ago, when the world was once young,
The Devil hath risen in revolt against God.
He wanted the throne of Creation for himself,
But he was punished to burn eternally in the fires of hell.
Not so many ages ago, when humanity was once young,
The Devil arose once more to claim humans for himself.
But once again he failed, at the hands of the Son of God.
Third time, however, payeth for all.
And this is the story of the Devil's third uprising.
God knew that this doth eventually happen,
And so hath She decreed that the Devil would fall,
But this time, at the hands of a blessed mortal.
The Devil knew of this - but he stoppeth not
As he flieth to a remote corner of the world.
His wings seemeth to spit fire; his eyes
Burneth with ambition, and ironical hope.
From the ashes he leaveth in his wake, riseth
His army of demons, for him to dispose of as fit.
First riseth Lucifer, and Azazel,
Lesser in power, although
Undiminished in ferocity and barbarism.
The Devil then alighteth at his destination;
A dark cove beset with a sinister aura.
Inside sitteth two monsters, of a scale
Incomprehendible to humans, perhaps for good.
They are dragons; nay, not just dragons,
But the oldest of all, and the most powerful beings ever.
The greatest threat to God herself.
There lieth the Welsh Red Dragon, Ddraig,
And his twin brother, the White Sky Dragon, Albion.
These two mighty abominations, capable enough together
To end reality as it is known to Man.
The Devil speaketh: "Ddraig and Albion!
Old friends, I need thy help to defeat God!
She herself hath come on Earth, in a vain quest
To end thy glory, and cloud thy name forever.
Join thy claws with me, and thou shalt be saved! "
Ddraig growleth, "Silver-tongued worm,
Thou hast great audacity, to talk of such frivolity
And to think of saving us, who could reduce thee to a pulp.
We are the Elder Dragons! The only truly noble creatures
In a universe plagued by tiresome pests like thyself! "
The Devil's smile melteth a little; he sayeth,
"Fine noble dragons, both of thee art!
Languishing in this dark hole, forgotten by all.
Of what use is thy nobility, failing mascots?
Join forces with me; let the world know of thyself,
Let it remember once more the true might of thy personage! "
Albion sayeth, "Methinks there is reason in the Devil's words,
Perhaps we should follow his counsel, brother.
We have waited for ages in this unending darkness,
Let us see the sun once more with our own eyes
Even as we dwarf her in our own glory."
Ddraig grumbleth and mumbleth, and finally sayeth,
"Thou hast won, Devil; we shalt fight God
But know this - we art not thy equals! "
Devil smileth, and sayeth, "A wise choice, Noble One,
Adieu, for we shall meet at the fields of war! "
Saying so, the Devil flieth off, even as
His retinue followeth his trail of darkness.
Meanwhile, in a different corner of the Earth,
The Hero of the West watcheth the horizon.
Her name was Emilia Justina; the one chosen by God
To forever destroy the presence of the Devil.
For years she hath taken instruction in celestial arts,
For years hath she prepared for the moment to fell the Devil.
The horizon shineth; a streak of light passeth by,
And suddenly the heavenly forms of God and Her angels
Becometh visible to the eyes of the Hero.
God alighteth in fron of Emilia; She sayeth,
"Emilia Justina, Hero of the West, hear me,
The Host of Heaven has decided to take back
Supreme control of the human race from the Devil.
Willst thou aid us, Emilia? "
To this, the Hero replieth, "God,
Thou hast decided my fate for me,
And I have no choice over what my life shall be.
I am but human, God; I would live peacefully,
I would grow up, be married, die quietly
Rather than face the monster you call Devil.
But thou hast snatched from me all things good,
And now I must do thy bidding like a slave.
Well, I hate thee for that,
But I hate the Devil even more, and I must fight."
God replieth, "Then we shall meet again, Hero
On the fields of war, where we shall destroy
Our greatest enemy, together."
Saying this, God flieth off, but now,
Michael speaketh, "Remember thy place, dog.
It is thy duty to respect and fear God.
Do as thou art bid, and do without question,
Or else, thou shalt face consequences."
Saying so, Michael leaveth too,
With all other angels attending to him.
Both so - called Good and Evil cometh together
In a flurry of light and darkness,
For another battle against each other
For another attempt to control the human race.
