Deuteranopia - For Eugene Poem by Charl JF Cilliers

Deuteranopia - For Eugene

When a laughing girl’s wide dress
of pale blue splashed and rippled
round her as she plunged down on the grass,
and a nearby red sand-bucket tipped
and poured yellow plastic ingots onto the sand,
I wondered about the world you wander in,
the rainbows that adorn your achromatic heaven.

Is the girl’s dress the same shade as the sky?
The grass a deep vibrato of dark green?
The bucket a flame-red toppled crucible pouring
gold onto a tawny strip of sand?

Then your impromptu sounds
of merriment suddenly coloured
my world with spontaneous wonderment.
