Devi Maha Käli
Victory to You O Bhadra Käli - the radiant Goddess!
Victory to You as the destroyer of Madhu and Kaitabha!
Victory to You as the annihilator of Mahishasura!
Victory to You as the vanquisher of Shumba and Nishumba!
Victory over all evils and evil beings,
Victory for the noble and the righteous!
O Maha Käli! With the blazing fire of your energies,
Destroy my ‘Avidya' or ignorance!
Like you destroyed the ignorance of Madhu and Kaitabha
The barbaric demons!
Lead me away from the tunnel of darkness,
To emerge at the gate of golden lights!
O Maha Käli! With your tremendous power,
Scorch the seeds of ‘Asmita' or the ego in me!
Like you scorched the disgusting ego
Of Mahishasura -the buffalo demon!
Bless me with ‘Viveka'- the discriminatory wisdom
To lead a life full of love and compassion!
O Maha Käli! With your mysterious Tantrik Vidyas
Subdue my ‘Räga - Dvesha'!
The twin forms of attraction and repulsion,
That oscillates like a pendulum in my life!
Like you subdued the pride of Chanda and Munda
The unscrupulous demons!
O Maha Käli! With your vibrant force or Shakti
Vanquish my ‘Abhinivesha'!
Clinging on to life and its juicy fruits
And the power and the possessions;
Like you vanquished the monstrous demons -
Shumba and Nishumba! 5
O Devi Bhadra Käli! With the fiery ‘Humkara' breath
Extinguish the burning fire of anger in me!
Just like you put an end
To the thunderous roar of
Dhumralochana
And burnt him to ashes!
O Devi Bhadra Käli! Wean me away from all negative
Thoughts, words and actions!
May the ‘tamasic' aspect in me
Not re-surface again and again,
Like the despicable Raktabheeja
Who multiplied with every drop of blood!
O Mäta! My Universal Mother! I salute you!
O Ambike! Goddess of cosmic delusion! Remove the veil before me!
O Chandike! Vanquish the false pride in me!
O Maheshvari! The subduer of devils, subdue the excessive desires in me!
O Näräyani! The protective armour of all devotees, ease all my sufferings!
O Bhadra Käli! Protect me and embrace me like your child!
