Diane And I Poem by DOMINIC PREMPEH

Diane And I

I wake up with your name
The name I cannot tame
You, the sunshine up my face
You brighten my dim world with your rays
You, the oak tree I cling to
When the storms of life reach the crescendo
You, the guardian angel that always wipe my tears
And forever chase away my fears
You, the morning dew that blossoms my life
Wish I was your wife

The African aroma that fills my local life
I pray for your life, wealth, strength and health
The actual thought behind my beaming smiles
The basic reason for my sweats and sighs
You, the typical African feminine
Rounded, plump and darkened
Wishing to always be with your soul
The very soul that makes me whole
You wanted to be my wife
You are in me, everything in me; my life

Now my heart smiles and sings a song of victory
Making my soul younger with eternity
What a little chip-chip bird that sings to my feeble heart
And brings the vibe and sweetness to soul and mind
You said I'm the reason for your smiles, oh my days
Then your smiles are the anti-ageing douse
That clears the wrinkles of my rounded African face
You, the reason for life and living it
You, the finder of the hidden topaz
You, the undiscovered

Oh Diane!
When would she tell a story without my listening?
And what would she listen to without my voice?
If tomorrow never surfaces
Or if I don't make it the next minute
Watch my pictures and reminisce on my works
Be satisfied for a yeoman's work I did for others
And pray we meet in the world beneath
Because we've eclipsed; like the sun, moon and earth
You, Diane, and I
