Did You Know My Daddy? Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

Did You Know My Daddy?

My grandson and I were at the playground,
For that little one loves to run and play.
And while he was swinging on the swing set,
Another little boy came by my way.

He said "did you know my daddy Mr. Grandpa?
He is just a picture now today.
My mommy says I'm the man of the house now.
I really hope you can show me the way."

I said "I knew your daddy very well son,
And I bet his picture is very fine.
I know him because I know his son now.
And I'd be proud if you too were mine."

My grandson befriended my new friend there.
And he asked him if he'd like to share,
His grandpa's love and be best friends,
And I know for you he surely will care.

I'm glad my daddy was more than a picture.
Though that's all I have left now to see.
His love he shared with me and others,
And passed it on for that young boy to see.
