Disabled Poem by Joy Davis

Disabled

Disabled

I cannot catch my breath
misery overwhelms me
my mouth condemns all
and I am pronounced guilty.

I cannot open my eyes
day turns to night
and as my heart turns cold
the dark entices my fright.

I cannot speak
for fear of being turned away
my soul is struggling
witht the words I cannot say.

I cannot move my hands
which so desire a gentle touch
with unable limbs and defeat
I miss that love and peace so much.

I cannot love you
for my heart is frozen
my lips are silent
and my world is already chosen.
