Dismissed Myths Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Dismissed Myths

It is the appearance of reality.
That one rumored about.
So many have never,
Known before to witness and see,
Reflect to represent...
In numerous positions of leadership.
With diversity producing the truth of it.

Although...
Seen in movies and on their TVs.
Yet...
To actually have this reality,
And the truth of it to appear as is...
Has created those for decades unaccepting,
Their delusions to face and question.

Traumatized into shock.
And dropping to knees in disbelief.
Many baby boomers,
Raised on Mighty Mouse,
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Weep in tears.
To have their depiction of fiction,
And the difference between...
That and non-fiction crushed.

Yet...
Still they rush.
To protest in the streets.
Overdosed with minds stuck at Woodstock.
Unable to let their childhoods go.
Fed to feed to their children.
And grandchildren too.
To claim and blame,
A deliberate taking away...
Of all their treasured fantasies.
Removed from them completely.
By an introducing of truth.
With dismissed myths.

"It will be okay, grandpa.
I believe you once spoke,
To rodents who with you debated...
Whether LSD got you a better high,
Than sniffing glue.
Or weed laced with oregano.
But grandpa?
Gone to go 'bye-bye' has been the '70s!
And...
Colored people and Negroes too,
Have actually been elected...
To sit in positions and make decisions,
In...The White House. YES!
And weed?
It's almost legalized everywhere today.
For real."
