Do Not Fret, O Mind, Have Patience

Kannada composition by Kanakadasa
Translated by C.P. Ravikumar

Do not fret, O mind, have patience,
He shall take care of all, keep faith!

Behold the tree atop the hill,
Now who watered it? Just consider.
He who gives us life takes ownership
And will protect us, have no fear.
Who feeds every bird and beast
In the woods each day? Give it thought.
Like a mother would guard her child He guards
Every life form, be assured.

Who painted the peacock in colors grand?
And chose the lovely hue for the ruby red
And for the parrot that exact shade of green?
Leave your worries to him instead.

When the frogs that live in the stone pond
Croak in hunger, whose magic wand
Brings to them a morsel? Fret not
When Keshava of Kaginele is in command.
