Dog Days Poem by Carolyn Breeze

Dog Days

Dog days grow near. I Feel it in the air.
All the fruit trees in the orchard are bare.
The water in the pond is warm as a bathe.
In just a few short weeks summer will pass.

sweet summer, summer of innocence lost
Never will I be innocent again for I tasted it.
Lusted for it, dreaded the cool air and fireflies light
Pulling me like a puppet inside for the night.

Then I wake, couldn't wait to get out the door
Summer was short on time and I wanted more catching a fish in the rain, buying an RC from the store
Running from the geese and kissing on the shore

Oh how I long to feel those dog days before summers end
They come and go to bring back the autumn once again
This feeling, this nostalgia for rubic cubes, and walk men
Neon colors, leg warmers, and hanging with my friends

I had the best summer that anyone ever could.
The tears sting my eyes just as I knew they would
My husband wonders why I cry, I think he knows
As the years go by my fondness for dog days grows
Goodbye summer, goodbye little girl, it has been fun
I will always remember our time under the hot Florida sun
