Don't Go There Poem by Gerhardus Keen

Don't Go There

Miles of empty space
barren like a dessert
where you will get burnt
should you dare to go there

Rugged cliffs reaching up to heaven
too high for you to climb
where you will get hurt
should you dare to go there

That is what my heart is like
not because I wanted it that way
but all the cheating and the lies
caused it to be like that

So don't try to get too close
my defenses are too hard to crack
and I know that I would make you cry
should you dare to go there

I am in a self preserving mode
where I thought I'd never be
and I will only break your heart
should you dare to go there

So please don't fall in love
I'm not worthy of your time
and I will slowly drive you away
just to protect this heart of mine

I know I will miss you dearly
and silently I will cry
but it is better that you hate me
than to let another love die
