Don't Blame The Bankers Poem by C Richard Miles

Don't Blame The Bankers

Don't blame the bankers for the mess we're in:
It wasn't they who made us ask for more
to push us into debt and so finance each sin
that in our wildest dreams we hankered for.

Don't blame the bankers that we've spent their cash
on buying articles we do not need
just so others think that we appear quite flash
since we were guided by untrammelled greed.

Don't blame the bankers that we weak-willed folk
gave in to pure temptation's grasping pull
and did not resist the cheerful Howard bloke
who promised extra to make lives less dull,

but blame the bankers for each winning wile
that lured us in and made us take a look
so snaring us by ever-tightening guile,
which reeled us in till harpooned by their hook.
