Dotty About Poetry! Poem by Denis Martindale

Dotty About Poetry!

Love songs are rhythms set to rhymes,
Great songs both young and old,
Beyond both happy and sad times,
The silver and the gold,
The precious kisses borne of love,
Are blessings on the way,
Yet even these prove not enough
Upon love's Wedding Day.
Yet gentle poems were the start,
Before love's lyrics came,
Before the yielding of one's heart
To learn a sweetheart's name.
And yes, I've written love songs, too,
Before God took my hand,
And simply told me, I LOVE YOU,
And great things I've got planned.
How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace,
These were my joy to sing,
And yet new songs I still embrace
That preach of Christ the King.
Some of my words fit hymns of praise
Of common metre lines,
With every syllable and phrase
To bless both hearts and minds.
So why not share on websites, too?
That's what they're surely for,
And when I share my thoughts with you,
Your thoughts add even more.
