Dream Girl Poem by Em Jay Christian

Dream Girl

And I am a Dream Girl,
Have been,
All my life.
With my far away eyes,
And my precious,
Delicate laugh.
With my musical intuition,
And no understanding,
Of sarcasm,
Or math.
With a mouth like,
A pirate,
Or a flower,
Depending who you ask.
I speak only in rhythm,
And gentle rhetoric,
And no one understands me.
You could sell me,
Bit by bit,
For magic beans,
And that,
Would probably be fine by me.
Because I'm a Dream Girl,
But everyone is scared to notice,
That I am only nice,
Because I was born this way,
It comes naturally.
I didn't sign up,
To be a martyr,
Or a saint.
And if I could live my life,
And buy nothing but,
Twinkies,
And records,
And paint,
All for me,
I would.
Because I am a Dream Girl,
And that makes people,
Look down on me,
Or tell me,
To grow up,
And stop being,
Different.
But I don't know how to be,
Anything but me,
I was born this way,
And I am just a Dream Girl.
If you don't like it,
Look away.
I never asked to be infamous.
