Dreamer Poem by Alex McCullough

Dreamer

Those days when sheets were only big enough,
To hold the two of us,
Have been left somewhere in the past,
Though I still drag them along.
And even if a storm or God came about,
To tear them away from me,
I would hold on tight,
And risk my life.....because they're something I don't wanna forget.
Just like a fairy tale,
When this all began,
I wasn't sure who or where I was,
Though you already knew my true identity.
As the days went to months then into years,
The games and things we did together,
I keep them close to my heart,
Even as I speak.
But do you still remember,
'Don't leave me! ',
They echo constantly in my head,
The words you yelled that day,
Became an anchor,
And kept drawing me back to you.
Don't let the words I speak,
Poison your heart,
Because if anything ever happened to you,
It'd be like a bolt from the out of the blue,
And strike me away into nothingess.
There are I nights I stay up wondering,
If you're okay right now,
But I know my heart is fine,
Because it'll beat on as long as yours does too.
Don't you ever lose the memories,
Of all the times we've shared,
But if you ever do,
It's okay,
Because we'll just build even better ones together.
