Dripping Petals At The Crossroads Poem by Joshua Mccoy

Dripping Petals At The Crossroads

Here I lay vertically upon a withered telephone pole
At the corner of Destiny and Fate.
It was destiny that brought us together
But
We were fated to part after our first encounter.
At this intersection, I hold a bouquet of sunflowers that flare up crisp beams of sunshine in a pin wheel shaped design against the surrounding darkness that’s drifting downward like a heavy rainfall.
This is not a plea for forgiveness
But a neglected understanding
I love you more than life itself
Yet
My only source of income to support my family
Leads you to believe other wise
Because of an unfair division in time.
My eyes grow weary with fatigue and my body begs the soul it holds captive to weaken its unyielding resolve to wait for the one who holds a special place in my heart, and lie down for some peaceful rest after being forced to function in sweat and grease for thirteen hours straight. But before the request is finally heard and about to be processed…
A car approaches.
I came here to revive your faith in me
I have not forgot nor forsaken you in any way
I will give you all that I am upon request
I have come to show you, my heart on a silver plate.
A door slams with fallen shards of glass
As angry foot steps march on past.
A hurt, emotionally scarred being looks up at me as my sullen, leaky eyes ready to let another stream flow down my cheeks, return the same stare.
Both longing for peace
We exchange words of compromise
Yet shadows linger upon my words
For my tainted heart knows betrayal is inevitable.
I trade my sunshine and pride
For renewed love and reassurance.
My soul splits like the masks of the intricate theater,
A lie hidden with an innocent joyous smile of laughter,
And the horrendous truth bleeding out in tears behind closed doors.
Immediate self termination
For full time dedication
