Drizzle On The Grassfield Poem by Sofiul Azam

Drizzle On The Grassfield

On this grassfield, I roll like a ball
in the drizzle, melting this torrid
heat and sweat - agents of agitation.

Saying "Forget about it, " I keep
rolling on and on as far as the edge
of this green mattress, and feel

once again the drizzle of Granny's
grace falling on a little kid that I was
at Grandpa's farmhouse,

simply a sweating reed heated
by Mum's words - oh, ear-blasting
as clatters of steel and deafening

about my failure in school. Now
I taste the drizzle's honey, leaving
aside my colleagues' grin

that frustration is my nickname.
