Ears To Hear Eyes To See Poem by Dorsey Baker

Ears To Hear Eyes To See

He is a
very young child
but he hears
and he sees
the arguing
the roaches crawling
the crumbs upon the table
the dirty
dishes in the sink
witness
exotic displays
of romantic affection
his mind
his body
responds
to their environment
the reality
of poverty hits hard!
the bathroom has not
been cleaned for a week
the grass has not been cut
for a month
the rent is due!
but his parents
only have
enough money
to buy
one loaf of bread
and one can of beans!
