Earth Poem by Gary Excell

Earth

An expanse of gas, Sudden breaks,
Swirling Dust, and Sulphur lakes,
A Spiralling ball, too hot to see,
The Impact on our home to be.

For Billions of years, to produce the new,
From molten rock and meteors too,
Time did take, the heat to cool,
Then life has sprung, from the waves so blue.

Particles of life, begin to spring,
Into the oceans a birth did bring,
A new beginning, a chance to thrive,
The life did change world dead now alive.

Plants and fish and reptiles bold,
The first to inherit the earth so old,
Then gas is formed to stop the sun,
The land so dead, starting to run.

With life so bright, green and proud,
The fish did wonder and leave aloud,
To walk upon the land so new,
And take the breath of life as true.

For years and years, life did swarm,
The earths crust again has started to warm,
Until beneath the land so deep,
A lake of rock begins to creep.

Explosion of heat, and gas so ill,
Did creep along with intent to kill,
The life now gone and land so dead,
The fist extinction, life all did dread.

Now home again, is dead and bold,
A sudden change from warm to cold,
The ice did grow, from pole to pole,
A snowball earth has begun to unfold.

Millions of years, for the ice to form,
Ice and cold and then back to warm,
The melt is here and now so true,
What life has done, in the deep ocean blue.

A new beginning, a world so bright,
The dinosaurs, begin their awesome plight,
Millions of years these monsters do live,
But nature again, a shock to give.

The meteor of meteors has started to fall,
To hit the ground and grow so tall,
The rock and dust has darkened the sky
And killed off the dinosaurs before they could hide.

Time again will need to pass,
And life to spring up near and fast,
To change the planet from dead to alive,
Again more creatures begin to thrive.

Until one day, a mammal is born,
Unique abilities to listen and learn,
Finally now is the time of man,
Billions of years, was the ultimate plan.

Who knows what will become of us,
We have done so much to create and fuss,
The earth now ours in its glory so bright,
We’ve conquered the day as well as the night.

But histories tale has laid a plan,
And what will then become of man,
An extinction again is due to give,
And clean out the earth where we all do live.

So remember this to one and all,
We are simply just tenants on the planet so blue,
Until one day the earth will plan,
The destruction of everything, even of man.
