Earthquake At Indian Ocean.. Poem by Veeraiyah Subbulakshmi

Earthquake At Indian Ocean..

The sudden movement down the buttocks,
very unusual, but scary to jerk up,
if earth rocks wild in Indonesia,
sometimes we feel mild in Malaysia,
Watching the news gives no clue,
a message through sms,
from the man in an important meeting,
'tremor felt in Penang',
the pearl of orient,
heart stops a minute,
searching for the buttons,
in the phone,
shaking hands fail to cooperate,
trembling legs hesitate to move,
relatives in southern India, chennai,
Tsunami hit Nagapattinam,
called everyone to check,
and found the mother ocean,
has become calm, though not sure,
Then, then only think of people,
who are in the area,
where earthquake actually hit,
Then only start to pray,
O God! please save the people,
wherever they are!
whoever they are!

In crises we always tend to think of people of our own blood first and then only think of others., and pray for their welfare.Well picturized poem.I like it.

The news of this quake of 8.9 richter scale at Aceh and the consequent vibrations in and around Chennai sent horrors through our minds in Melbourne. Since the creation of this earth, this part of submerged Lemurian continent is shaken often by earthquakes and tsunamis. But in this poem, you have recalled the earlier strikes.
