Ebb Tide Poem by Alex Cairnie

Ebb Tide

There is a storm surrounding me, but within it I exist
Magnetic poles, so strong I can't resist
And somewhere too, in this is you
In the waking hours, dictating all I do

I wade waste deep in darkness, but I am not alone
For by my side, your spirit shields my own
The great protector, of my lonely heart and soul
That erases all the bad, leaving no pain to console

Beneath the surface, of that glimmering angry sea
My passion grows, for a life fulfilled with thee
Never stopping, but for a love that's passed
The ebb tide steals away the spell that's cast

Returned to you, my mind it cannot rest
I fail each time I try to pass the test
Of casting off your eternal haunting grip
But deeper still, in crushing waves of love I slip

You are the reef, protecting me from sorrow
Embraced by you, I'll see one more tomorrow
Knowing you are there, and that for me you wait
I'll keep treading water, though in truth I know I dived too late
