Empath's Lament Poem by Skylark Woodrow

Empath's Lament

But that's part of it isn't it...
You can feel their pain,
But they can't feel yours.

Perhaps that is why I always feel so alone.
I expect people to see that something's off,
I expect people to know that something's wrong.
I expect people to be able to feel what's beneath the surface;
Because...
I can.

I can see the difference,
I can feel the pain.
Some say it's because I've got a big heart,
Some say it's because I notice the little things,
Some say it's because I'm sensitive;
But somehow or another I'm always there for those who need me.
Yet in my darkest hours I find myself alone,
Fighting a battle I fear I'll lose.
Why am I so alone?
Why can't others see my pain?
