Evening In Kumta Railway Station. Poem by VINAYAK ADKOLI

Evening In Kumta Railway Station.

In the Kumta railway station
On the shining railway track
Rail engine suddenly stops and whistles.
Like escaping dog.
Later in the evening
They carry engineering students to Mangalore
Heavily weighted coconut bags to Mumbai
And Ayappans devotees to Kerala.
People who are aged
Are not seen on the beaches.
But here.
Near junkyards,
Walking along the rough roads near the tracks.
They talk endlessly
From ration cards to
Miraculous comeback of their
Coconut tree maintainer.
Instruction boards like
Wheel chairs are provided
Give clear understanding to
Those who just enter into old age.
While the weighing unit
Is a good learning instrument
For children.
