Every Second, Every Hour

Truest love, thou art my all
My sounding drum, my fortress wall
A gentle brook, a pretty flower
Every second, every hour

Dearest one, I shall recount
My heart's desire from yonder mount
And all my love shall fall like showers
Every second, every hour

Gentle heart, I do impress
My very soul with each caress
And plants shall bloom upon the bower
Every second, every hour

Sleep sweet one and calm your breath
For love like ours can know no death
Angels watch from their lofty towers
Every second, every hour

Never fear, my heart is true
You'll hear it ever calling you
Our love shall always dwell in power
Every second, every hour

poet Walt Whitman

ARM’D year! year of the struggle!
No dainty rhymes or sentimental love verses for you, terrible year!
Not you as some pale poetling, seated at a desk, lisping cadenzas
