Eyes Of Innocence (Silently She Cries) Poem by Seairra Kyger

Eyes Of Innocence (Silently She Cries)

Rating: 4.5

I'm only 10 years old
I might not understand
Why can we help some
And leave the rest so helpless
We really need to change

I don't understand
Why Daddy hits Mommy
I know she is trying so hard
To give everything she has
Why does she not tell him it hurts
Why can't he see I’m crying to
Why does Mommy lie about the marks
Can't Daddy see that she loves him

I don't understand
Why Timmy hates Johnny
Wasn't he born that way
People say black but the color is brown
Why does he want him dead
Why can he only see skin
Why can't he see what's within
Can't Timmy see Johnny is just a person

I don't understand
Why they are taking Bubby away
I know it’s a war, I hear the stories
I just can't see the purpose
Why is Mommy crying
Why isn't Bubby coming back
Why did they need his life
Can't they win their fight without emptying our home

I don't understand
Why Sissy's wrists keep bleeding
Don't you know that by hurting yourself
You’re slowly killing my role model
Why can't she see me
Why can't she see I love her
Why can't she see the Sissy I see
Can't she just throw those horrid blades away

This pain and hatred
Has opened my eyes
These lies and torture
Has opened my eyes
They try to silence me
I guess I’m crying
I’ll cry in pillows tonight
So please don't listen

I’m only 10 years old
I might not understand
But you scared my eyes of innocence
