Faces Poem by Mark Williams

Faces

I need to be anyone else so I can love you
Labels and names betray my rotated faces
We have told a hundred lies to be here
Walking on pins, what does it matter if we fall
Looking away from me with that smirk

I regret knowing what true regret feels like
I must not remember the sweat and heat
Guilty of the past love condition, affection
Convict released upon settlement of terms
Your hand is cold, my palm is in fire

My problem is I am the one searching
Caring for the artist's lines
Grasping the tiny written signs
My problem is too much time
No understanding
Drinking too much water
Your problem is me

If these are the choices
Provide a respite from the dancing
If I am to face the horror and fire,
Leave the path beaten to allow return
Sinking ache of hearts bind us

I will never see those faces again
I will never see those faces again
I will never see those faces again
I am blocking the way
Tiny eyelashes exquisitely fly my way

My problem is I am the one searching
Caring for the artist's lines
Grasping the tiny written signs
My problem is too much time
No understanding
Drinking too much water
Your problem is me

Holding my cards low
Please know what I know
I have tried, if I had another choice
I would love anyone else but you
Superiously touching, wafting in sweet breath

Did you stop listening after the first line
Does it matter what I could be to you
Does it matter what I would do to you
What could change even after all this time
Pressing to each other we lie inseparable

My problem is I am the one searching
Caring for the artist's lines
Grasping the tiny written signs
My problem is too much time
No understanding
Drinking too much water
Your problem is me
