Father Time And I Poem by Edwina Reizer

Father Time And I

Father time, you are not my friend.
You come too soon as the year does end.
I’m never ready to let go the past.
I always want to make it last.
For I’m familiar with what’s come before
And am fearful of what might be in store.

Father time, you cut into my scene.
You wipe away the slate and leave it clean.
I vow to do better in the New Year
But sometimes my vows are broken I fear.
My intentions are good but at the end of my day
It is with sorrow that I do say.

“I’ll try tomorrow to make up for today.”
Alas, for me time’s just slippin’ away.
If I can slow my intentions down
Then Father time won’t wear the crown.
I’ll be in charge of all that I do
And laugh and say “Gee how time flew.”
