Fear Poem by sarah orchard

Fear

So cold the ebony forest lies
Inner strength, outer breaks
The forest with its splendour keeping
prepares itself to greet the night

My eyes grow wide, the light is fading
I strain to see what lies in wait
Nightmares overide my reason
terror filled, I run in haste

I'm running scared, my heart beats faster
My mind surcomes to the fear it hosts
All my senses fly around me
They warn against the danger hence

The unknown terror fast approaches
It floats along the moonlit night
My ears kick out to catch its breathing
My hope has died, my fate is known

Silence deafens all around me
I dare not breathe for fear of death
So still the night and trees surrounding
My beating heart, the only sound

Masking cloaks, the drops of rainfall
Shrouds the mystery deeper still
Moonlight plays with fallen shadow
The claw is seen, the chase is on

Running blindly, panic rising
I try to scream, my voice has died
My sanity, held by a whisker
to faint, I lust, to run, my fate

Terror stops the glance behind me
The awful truth, too much to bear
The way ahead, my only refuge
To look behind would mean my death

Its right behind, the end is closer
Its eyes are burning on my soul
The ground looms up, it snares and traps me
The claw is raised, the aim is true
