Fear Poem by mohanan viswambharan Nair

Fear

You chase after me,
Since I knew you.
On the meadows, hills,
Roads, rivers, and seas,
You do not spare me, anywhere I will be.

You chase after me,
Since thought sprouted in me,
Like buds that grew leaves,
Dry and fell down in drizzling,
In sun, rain, and in trees freezing cold.

You chase after me,
Since teens thrived in hope,
Ran like a stallion in spring of life,
Neighing after a mare in lust.

You chase after me, when-
The youth fell writhing and ended
In fate's black iron hands, but,
Never have once you known
What I lost to me was myself?
Before facing a moment new,
Starting a mission afresh,
I feel your invisible presence.
When a friend frowns at me,
An enemy stares at me in hate,
Beating a kettle drum in aloud,
You spread over me like a fireball.
A score of thorns pears to flesh,
Blood spills as drops in pain,
A dazed infant cries inner caves
I stood before them lifeless.
Being ruthless, you advanced.
I am fed up with your constant pricking.
As a wanderer on the wilds of failure,
As I stood in the shade of a lone tree,
Deciding to end life in a rope-knot,
I felt you're unbroken to me as a shadow,
A friend or enemy to the grave.
There is a prayer yet, seems vain
Let me be free to live on a day,
Forgetting the great maxim-
Great safety lies in you.
