Fear Me Poem by Vianney Guadae Chavez

Fear Me

Rating: 3.5

Fear me.
I can always control you.
You can never control me.
I can take over your mind.
I can take over your heart.
Look me in the eyes and you will fall.
A trench so deep you will never survive.
No longer will you see people as you had before.
Smile and you will show your new razor sharp teeth.
Why are you wishing you had never met me?
You should be glad.
I gave you brand new eyes to see.
No longer are you color blind.
Color is all you see.
Are you not glad I came to visit?
Do not worry.
I am not here to stay.
I will be kind.
I will leave you a sliver of your heart.
I will leave you a sliver of your mind.
But never forget.
You can never control me.
I can always control you.
Remember,
Fear me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
We had an assignment in English class one time to write a poem connected to either the story by Harper Lee or Dr.Martin Luther, Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech or racism. After a day of having no idea what to write, one of the verses popped into my head all of a sudden, 'I can always control you.' Soon, I had the poem written on a scrap of paper.
The poem is a personification of racism.
