Finding Yourself Poem by Shadow Kiss

Finding Yourself

Rating: 4.0

I thought you said you loved me
thought you were the one
to finally see
the true beauty deep inside me
But it was not to be

still you held in me in your arms
and swore that you would shield me from any harm
and then you kissed me tenderly
and my world shined
and I rose again, leaving regret behind

Somehow it seems that every girl must suffer
But I guess that’s how we mature
Because as my heart heals I have gotten a lot tougher
Love is, after all, the greatest adventure

I thought about the hurt and the pain
And never even dreamed that I would be able to let go
Tears pouring down my face like rain
The voice the thunder, the eyes the lightning, and so…

Life is quirky
You never know how you might surprise yourself
It all depends on how you treat yourself
If you know how to love yourself
Properly.

Shadow Kiss, you are so right. Love is the greatest adventure. This stanza is right on: Somehow it seems that every girl must suffer But I guess that’s how we mature Because as my heart heals I have gotten a lot tougher Love is, after all, the greatest adventure When our intended love, or what we think is our intended love, does not share our feelings of actual love, but treats it like it was yesterday's garbage, then it is time to let them go. and yes this IS how we mature and become tougher, so that the next time we meet with someone who promises to love us and protect us, we will make sure we go with caution, because if we throw caution to the wind, then we are the ones who are seriously and emotionally hurt. You have written a very heartfelt, soulful, and emotional poem of unrequited love. If you will, please read my poem 'Unrequited Love'. Thank you so much for sharing. Love & hugs, Barbara
