First Love Poem by erin maher

First Love

My mind runs wild
but my emotions run deep
a laugh, a kiss
and a memory I'll keep

A young girl's first love
and my first broken heart
one year together
now torn apart

Each day drags on
every night I cry
my pillow gets soaked
from his abrasive goodbye

A boy moves on
while I stay in place
there's no where to run
and no time to waste

The memories we shared
haunt every room
from the time that I met him
till he left me in June

I toss and I turn
I can't sleep at night
my heart has exploded
like reckless dynamite

The pieces are scattered
I'm no longer whole
my heart is damaged
and so is my soul

The first cut is the deepest
that's metaphorically correct
first love takes the longest to heal
and is the hardest to forget
