Flight Poem by Hadi Hakkai Renato P.

Flight

Rating: 5.0

She can't explain how she feels.
She doesn't know.
"Unhappy" is just on the surface
Along with "sorrow, " "pain"
Half-shaped tears sliding down her face,
She's fallen.
But she doesn't have the strength
To pick herself up again and so she waits,
Hoping someone passing by could pick
Her body off of the cold cement.
But no one does.
She lies there praying for everything she knows
To give her the force to pull herself up.
She looks to the sky, she looks to the sea,
The mountains, the hilltops, the valleys, the deserts, the plains
The moon swaying the tides with the wind pulling at leaves
As if trying to twist them off their branches like a child might do with clay.
And she hopes and prays and all she can feel is the touch of silence
Wrapping her in a weighted blanket and pinning her to the ground.
She reaches deep into her soul finding the voice inside, her sound...
Grasping onto it firmly until she can taste it on her tongue,
She saw the scream leave her parted lips;
Parted so that neither one could see its brother.
She poured out her heart
She poured out her soul
But not one could hear her
She was muffled by the cold, by the darkness, by the pain
Nothing, emptiness. She was left for dead
And she could smell death's chilly approach
Yet through the frost came a warmth
That grew and encircled her
Filled her every nook and cranny, fighting with all its might
And as it touched her she suddenly felt light.
She felt she could fly when just barely could she walk
The soft glow of her invisible wings behind her
Pushing the sky out of the way
Making themselves some space and all the while
The glow grew wider
Brightening with every stroke
As her ears filled with the sound of laughter,
Yes, laughter, as she floated above all the emptiness
She could feel, she could LIVE.
As death took away everything blocking her path,
Stopping her from that laugh
And through her lips erupted at last that one note,
A scream as she continued to float.
