Fly Away Poem by Justin Gildow

Fly Away

Standing on this broken bridge
Looking all around me
Seeing the city
Absolutely broken in pieces

Looking up in the sky
I see an angel and a fairy
Flying through the air
They notice me
And they descend upon the bridge
To stand on both sides of me

Standing side by side of me
They know my thoughts
So I don't have to speak to them
They're my friends
They know how I feel sometimes
Either dreamy and romantic
Or world weary and pessimistic

I'd like to fly away
They can see it in my eyes
Just to fly away somewhere
Nothing's going the way I want it to in my life
right now

For a little while
I'd like to escape my surroundings

They both look at me
They smile at me
They can read my thoughts

They each lock their hands in mine
And we rise into the sky
And we fly away
Away from the broken bridge
Away from these stressful predicaments
Away from the bleakness of the city
The 3 of us fly away from it all
