For My Parents Poem by Nalini Jyotsana Chaturvedi

For My Parents

here was once
a simple seed
did not know
its worth or need
never had
a chance to grow
others thought
that it was 'slow'
it was like a wingless bird
not included in the herd

so it had learn't to live alone
trying to sprout,
where grass had grown
deep in jungles it felt safe
no one around
no taunt
'its late'

but that seed was gardeners joy
to help it sprout
they nurtured and toiled
and made sure
no predator would unearth
saved it from freezing winters
and long summers killing dearth

one fine day when time was right
the seed, pushed the earth
and sprouted smiling bright
soon it started reaching for sky
once that was timid
too scared and too shy

rest is just a history
whether it grew tall or not
is mystery.
