For One Day Poem by Randy McClave

For One Day

"I wanna be dictator for just one day! "
To the American people that he did say,
I wonder what he would propose or do
If he didn't like either me or you.
Would he put a contract on every Journalist's head
Because, he didn't like what they had written or said,
Even though what was said and printed was factual and true
Would he shut all newspapers down, I have not a clue.
I wonder if on that very day one
If all of his political adversaries would be all gone,
I wonder if his heart couldn't stand still
Until all his opposition were arrested or he did kill.
I wonder if all of the lawsuits and judgements that he loss
Out of the courtrooms and system would he toss,
I wonder for those loses would he avenge
Then against all his plaintiffs would he seek revenge.
Would he forever remove the wealthy taxes
And those who say they should pay, would they get the axes,
I wonder if then would he command to be praised
Knowing as a dictator, he was most certainly raised.
I wonder if he would be like all the other dictators
Who are murderers and cheaters and liars and freedom haters,
I wonder if that pure power would then entice
I wonder if he would then take their advice.
Would he then change our countries every law
By allowing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to fall,
I wonder what he wants and believes would it become true
And what other directions that he would pursue.
Now I wonder how much he would like that lifestyle
As he would be all controlling with a smile,
Then when his one day as being a dictator is through
I wonder if he would then decide that he would want a day two.
