I watched you as you climbed the hill,
Carrying that cross on your back;
Through it all, I suffered with you,
Watching your gray sky turn black
Bravely, you struggled to the top,
Not once did you look toward me;
I cried 'Please, let me help you, love, '
But you just ignored my plea
That cross - your conscience in turmoil,
And you, dear soldier, battle-scarred;
You never faltered..... no retreat.....
Your breaking heart lost not a shard
Then you managed a tortured smile.....
You can't hide behind that screen;
Onlookers mourned, their heads bent low,
Yet to me, the cause still unseen
Why do you suffer, why this pain,
How was this candle of torment lit?
I climbed the hill.... then I saw the cross.....
My name was written all over it
Forgive me for the pain I've caused,
That was never my intent;
I believed I was fulfilling dreams.....

a love all the while reciprocated but recognized only after separation, a poignant dichotomy!
Dear Sir This is a lovely poem but i cannot understand who is mentioned in it.
Lovely Lora, very well written and rhymed. Enjoyed reading.
Whoever this beautiful, apologetic poem is addressed to, it touched me and I liked it. Both you and he are nice persons, Why should there be pain between the two, caused by either or both? ? A beautiful poem that deserves 10/10.
