Forgive Us, Mother Earth - A Sonnet Poem by Richard St. Clair

Forgive Us, Mother Earth - A Sonnet

I love you, Mother Earth, I really do:
Ashamed I am that humans violate
What sacred Mother Gaia did create
Long before we trampled over you.
What will our punishment turn out to be?
What collective karma must we bear,
Despoiling land and water, filthy air,
Our shameful acts a grievous travesty.
I speak for all of mankind, woke or not,
I ask, how can we avoid impending doom
That overshadows all in prophetic gloom,
A planet uninhabitably hot?
Forgive us, Mother Earth, oh if you can,
Lest all go down to death, woman and man.
