Freedom - A Buddhist Sonnet Poem by Richard St. Clair

Freedom - A Buddhist Sonnet

Yes, we all have a karmic debt unique:
Our distant lives bear witness to our pain,
And as we cycle through rebirth again
It is Nirvana that we finally seek.
Buddha said our life here is illusion:
Nothing but the Primal Vow is real:
And though through ups and downs we think we feel
Reality, t'is but a sad delusion.
Oh give me liberty, Oh give me death!
By dying I am born a Buddha pure
To save all whom I've known: I will assure
The selfsame gift for them at their last breath.
There is no karma left to bear, no foe:
The seeds of Dharma gratefully I sow.
