Free Will Poem by J.B. LeBuert

Free Will

All the knowledge in the world
Contained on the head of a pin
A pin so large, it has worlds within
Universes so small, they were out of sight
And couldn't explain why the moon took flight
Suddenly the kairos before us unfurled

The time of the maelstrom was upon us
Gravity's centripetal force superseded
Something alien to theurgical effects defeated
Everything was coming apart at supersonic speed
Society's fabric no longer contained creed
Rivers of ash coursing above, was not a plus

The answer was a facile solution
The only alternative for us was divine
Intervention, and it had better refine
Our simplistic conceptions of prayer
All knowledge caught in the universal snare,
Now left nothing but ecclesiastical absolution

Opposing minds had become like a garbage can
Restrained no longer under moral bonds
Determining the vortex and how it responds
To the Lord when She descends to see
The categorical miscalculations of Free
Will, that caused the destruction of man

The cool morning sun shone on the shimmering water
All was right after mankind's slaughter
